12 Morning Prayers for Family and Friends (with Free Printables)

Looking for morning prayers to pray for your family and friends? Prayer is one of the best ways we can show care and appreciation for the loved ones in our lives. Whether you are a parent, friend, aunt, uncle, or grandmother, we all have people in our lives who are very special to us. Prayer is one of the greatest gifts we can give to them.

Why Should We Pray for Family and Friends in the Morning?

Although we can certainly pray without ceasing by praying for others throughout the day, I also find great value in rising early in the morning to spend time in prayer before I begin my day. Jesus also rose early in the morning to pray (Mark 1:35). He often removed himself from large crowds to spend time alone with God.

There is nothing like the quiet stillness of the break of dawn. As the sun prepares to welcome another day, we can prepare our hearts to spend quiet, uninterrupted time with the Lord in prayer.

Here are 12 morning prayers for family and friends when you are looking to encourage others through your prayers. You can also download a set of FREE prayer printables at the end of this post!

Morning Prayers for Family and Friends–Prayers for Strength

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.

Psalm 18:32

Prayer: Lord, thank you for being our strength and fortress. Remind us each day that we can draw from your power and might. During times of weakness, guide and lead us through the power of your Holy Spirit. I ask that you will give my friends and family everything they need to face this week with power and confidence. Strengthen them in the midst of their circumstances, and remind them through your Word that they are treasured in your sight.

Morning Prayers for Family and Friends–Prayers for Hope

Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Psalm 25:5

Have you placed your complete hope in God? Have you given over to him the deepest longings of your heart? Put your hope in him, and he will never disappoint you.

This does not mean that we will never face disappointments by others.  This sinful world will still inflict pain and hurt. But when our hearts grow weary, aching from the pain of deferred hope, God will fulfill our longings with satisfaction, strengthening our souls like a strong tree.

May this prayer give them comfort and strength to continue to trust in the Lord each day.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for my family and friends today. Give them hope to trust in you. No one who puts their hope in you will ever be put to shame (Psalm 25:3). Be with them through the difficult circumstances they may be facing, and remind them that you are with them always. May their hope and trust in you strengthen their souls today. Amen.

Morning Prayers for Family and Friends–Prayers for Peace

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

Are your friends and family members in need of a little peace? No matter what you are going through, we can rest in the peace of God’s Word to calm our hearts and souls when we are in need of his rest.

Jesus told the disciples before he left to return to the Father, that he would give them his peace:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

And that peace now resides with us through the Holy Spirit! May the Lord clothe you with his perfect peace today. Whatever turbulent waters you may come across, remember that God’s perfect peace will sustain you through every storm!

Prayer: Lord, may the peace of Christ rule in our hearts today. Fill us with your peace and may it overflow into our homes and communities. Grant us peace and stability within our nations. Help us to strive to maintain peace among our neighbors, family members, and friends. In Jesus name, Amen.

Morning Prayers for Family and Friends–Prayers for Joy

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

Psalm 28:7

Whenever I think of joy, I am reminded of how Nehemiah encouraged the people of Israel. In Nehemiah chapter 8, Ezra the priest brought the book of the Law and read it before the people of Israel. He read the Law from morning till noon, and the people worshiped the Lord by lifting their hands and bowing down before the Lord (Nehemiah 8:6).

The people became so overwhelmed by the hearing of God’s Word that they began to weep (Nehemiah 8:9).

Here is where Nehemiah encouraged the Israelites:

“Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

The Hebrew word strength in this passage means “a place of safety, protection, and refuge” (source). Nehemiah encouraged the people to not mourn or grieve at the hearing of the Word of God, but to rejoice. The joy of the Lord was their strength, protection, and place of refuge.

May this joy be our place of refuge, protection, and strength today!

Prayer: Lord, this morning I ask for you to fill my family with joy. Even in the midst of difficult circumstances, we can still find true contentment and peace in you. Your joy brings us triumph over our enemies, and delight in the midst of despair. You know what my friends and family members are currently going through.

Meet them where they are, and surround them with your presence. We know that sometimes weeping endures for a night, but may your joy come in the morning–as strong and steadfast as the morning sun. Amen.

May they know and experience the amazing love that you have bestowed upon each of us. Help them to understand the depth and width of your love for them, and may they extend that love, mercy and grace to those around them. Amen.

Today I pray for my family and friends, and I ask for them to forgive one another for the sins they have committed against one another.
