I love to hear the birds chirping at the break of dawn on a crisp morning. I imagine that those birds are singing praises to God early in the morning, and they encourage me to begin my day with praise and thanksgiving. Mornings are a daily reminder of the new and fresh beginnings we can have with God.

Psalm 5:3
In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.
The morning is a wonderful time to spend time in prayer talking to God. I love the mornings before anyone else in my family is awake. It is quiet, peaceful and serene. There, in the stillness of the morning I can lay my request to the Lord and wait patiently for him to speak.
Psalm 30:5
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
We have all been through devastating moments in our lives when the pain, suffering and grief seems more than we can bear. It is in those moments when we can cry out to God. Our sadness and weeping may endure through the “midnight” hours when all seems hopeless and lost–but we know that the morning will come again!
In this Scripture, not only is David saying that the hope of the morning will come, but that our season of weeping and sorrow will one day come to an end. We can find comfort and strength in our great God in the morning.
Psalm 55:7
Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.

Psalm 59:16
But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
One of the greatest spiritual disciplines that we can develop when we wake up in the morning to spend time with God is the habit of praise. In this psalm, King David is talking about how his enemies tried to destroy him–but in the midst of his trouble and hardship, he praised the Lord in the morning. David knew that God was his refuge and strength in the midst of times of trouble.
Psalm 65:8
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.
We can sing songs of great joy to God when we think of how wonderful he is. He is the Creator and Maker of the heavens and the earth. All of creation echoes his splendor and majesty. For this reason, we can thank God for the glory of each new morning he has created, and give him praise and honor!
Psalm 88:13
But I cry to you for help, Lord; in the morning my prayer comes before you.
The morning is a great time to cry out to God for help. When we seek God in the morning, we can receive his clarity and wisdom. The calmness of the morning can also give us the strength we need to start a new day with God’s power and might.
Psalm 90:14
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
The Hebrew word for satisfy in this verse is śāḇaʿ, which means to satisfy with food, to satisfy desires, to have in excess, or to enrich (source). We all desire to be completely enriched, fulfilled, and satisfied with God unending love. May his love fill us with his abundant riches of joy and gladness!
Psalm 92:1-2
It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night…
When we praise God’s name and proclaim his goodness in our lives in the morning and at night, we don’t have time to dwell on the negative things happening in our lives. What a blessing it is to lift up the name of the Lord in the morning, and all throughout the day!
Psalm 130:6
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Watchmen in the Bible were responsible for protecting the city from potential threats and dangers at night (source). The writer of this psalm is saying that more than the watchmen wait for the morning to arrive, they want to wait on the Lord. May we also wait for the Lord with such great eagerness and expectation!
Psalm 143:8
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.
