More than ever, we need to clothe ourselves with the Armor of God as we daily fight spiritual battles.
We live in a fierce world.
Hatred, anger, and sin run rampant, and everywhere we turn we are surrounded by brokenness and pain.
How do we shine the light of Christ in a world filled with such darkness?
We must gird ourselves with the Armor of God and live as beacons of hope–shining brightly like lighthouses against the raging waves of the enemy.
This means we must cover ourselves in prayer.
We know the importance of praying for others, but we sometimes overlook that essential truth that we also need to pray for ourselves.
Praying for ourselves is not a selfish act, but a humble display of faith in our great God.
How to Pray for Ourselves
I love using the Scripture in Ephesians 6 as a guide to covering myself in prayer. In the same way we cover ourselves with clothing each morning, we can spiritually cover ourselves from head to toe, and claim victory in our lives before the day even gets started!
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.Ephesians 6:10
Let’s pray using this powerful passage!
Praying for Truth
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist… Ephesians 6:14
Lord, I pray that you gird me with your truth today. The enemy is the father of lies, and he will try to lead me away from your truth. Help me to meditate on your truth that sets me free!
Praying for Righteousness
…with the breastplate of righteousness in place… Ephesians 6:14b
Lord, thank you that through faith in you, I have the righteousness of Christ. I am now filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of your name! (Philippians 1:11)
Praying for Peace
…and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:15
I praise you Lord, for your peace that you have freely given to me by your Spirit. I believe that your peace will guard my heart and mind as I trust in you. (Philippians 4:7)
Praying for Faith
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Ephesians 6:16
Thank you that you protect me from the flaming arrows of the evil one. May your faith keep me rooted and grounded on a firm foundation, as I continue to serve you. I declare that my faith in you can move mountains! (Matthew 17:20)
Praying the Word of God
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17
Thank you Lord, that my salvation in you is secure! May I use your Word as an offensive weapon against the enemy. Help me to speak your Word with confidence and assurance. You are the Living Word, and you powerfully fight my battles! (John 1:1)
Here is a Scripture reading plan with an additional thirty-five Scriptures based on the Armor of God that you can pray over yourself and your loved ones each day.
