My family and I certainly understand the financial pressures of living on a tight budget. I am a homeschool mom of four, and my husband has worked in ministry for the past twenty years. Over the years we have prayed together about our finances, and have surrendered our lives to his sovereign will.

As I discussed in the post on praying for a change or breakthrough in our lives, a breakthrough is simply a change that desperately needs to happen in our lives. When we pray for a breakthrough in our finances, we can boldly ask God to change our financial situations according to his will.

Perhaps you or a loved one was recently laid off from a job. Maybe you or someone you love is unable to work because of a medical condition. Whatever the reason for your need for a financial breakthrough, we can pray that God’s will be done in our lives, and for him to be honored in our financial decisions.

Prayer for Financial Breakthrough: Remember that God Owns it All

As you begin to pray for financial breakthrough, remember that God owns it all. He powerfully spoke this world into existence, and he owns cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10).

Think of all the precious stones, diamonds, rubies, and pure gold that there is on the earth. God owns it all because he is the Creator of it all! Whenever we feel a sense of lack in our own lives, all we need to do is remember that our Abba Father has everything we need!

Section One: God Owns it All

The 51 Scriptures in this post are broken up into five different sections. The first section of Scriptures reveal God’s power and sovereignty over everything. Since he owns everything, without him, we would have nothing! Consider using these Scriptures to remind you that God is Creator and Ruler over all the earth.

1. Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it.

2. Haggai 2:8 ‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord of hosts.

Prayers to be a Good Steward over your Finances

Not only does God own everything, but he graciously put us in charge of taking care of the earth. After God created the amazing world we live in, he charged Adam and Eve to be faithful stewards over the earth, to fill the earth and rule over it with wisdom and authority (Genesis 1:28.)

Biblical stewardship is defined as utilizing and managing all of God’s resources in a way that honors and glorifies him (source). How are we managing the resources God has already given us? Are we faithfully stewarding what he has given us with diligence and discipline? One of the ways my husband and I have learned to steward our money is by learning about biblical stewardship. We have read books, listened to podcasts, and read many articles on practical ways to steward our money by budgeting, saving, and paying off debt. Prayers to be a Cheerful Giver

Since God owns everything and has entrusted what he has to us, we can truly give with a grateful heart, because we serve a wonderfully generous God. Even in times of financial difficulty and hardship, a heart that gives out of gratitude and thankfulness will be richly rewarded.

We as a family have implemented giving in our church, and have taught our children the importance of giving through donating to local nonprofit organizations. When our children were small, they each had “save”, “spend”, and “God” jars. When they received money, they would put a little in each of their jars. At the end of the week, they would take money from their “God” jar to give to our local church.

When we realize that God owns everything and graciously desires to give to us, we can boldly pray for God’s provision in our lives. His Word promises to meet our needs.

As a family of six living on one income, we have seen God’s hand of provision in a variety of ways. We are so grateful for the many ways God has provided for us over the years. Although we have many wants, we rest in his truth that whatever we are in need of, he will provide for us. This is my encouragement to you. Pray, stand firm on his Word, and trust that our Lord who holds all things in his hands, will provide for your every need!

Now that we know that we can confidently pray for God’s provision in our lives, we also must remember that the material blessings and wealth on this earth is not all there is to live for. For those of us who are part of the family of God, bountiful eternal rewards await us in heaven that far exceed anything we could ever ask or imagine on this earth. As we patiently wait for the Lord’s physical provision in our lives, we can confidently await the eternal blessings we will inherit through Christ!
