Trusting God During Difficult Times in Life

My husband and I loved spending time with our kids at the park when they were little. I remember one particular park near our church has a playground with a bridge leading from one end of the play structure to the other. This bridge is designed to wobble, shake, rattle and scare the living daylights out of mothers with young toddlers!

Whenever my youngest attempted to cross the bridge, my heart usually skipped a few beats. “What if she loses her balance and falls off the structure?” I wondered to myself.

It reminds me of movies with wobbly, broken bridges. Somehow the hero of the movie always manages to just barely make it across the bridge before the entire structure collapses and plummets into a raging river below.

Sometimes we think that God is like that rickety bridge. Our circumstances try to convince us that walking across on his bridge will ultimately lead to our destruction or demise. We edge along one board at a time, not trusting if his structure will hold each footstep we take. We doubt his goodness, and look at him with suspicion and careful caution.

In our minds we sometimes wonder…

“Will he answer my prayer?”
“Will he come through for me?”
“Will he provide for me?”
“Does he see my pain?”

The answer to all of these questions is a resounding YES!

We can rest secure in the truth that he is immovable, unshakable, firm, and steadfast. Life may teeter and wobble around us, but Jesus is the rock-solid bridge we can trust to get us across the troubled waters beneath us. When our emotions are riddled with insecurity, our hearts can stand on the secure foundation of our hope in Christ.

He is our security.

He is our fortress and strong tower. Because we are secure in him, we will never be shaken.

That means we are…

immovable…
unshakable…
and ultimately,
UNSTOPPABLE.

When your emotions take you for a tailspin and leave you feeling wobbly and weak, stand on his solid truths. Then use those Scriptures to pray powerful prayers during those hard times.

  6. I was beginning to write a little devotional for my son who is experiencing great difficulties. I had entitled it “Terminator Faith”. Remember the movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger called “The Terminator”? The thing about the “Terminator” was that nothing would stop him. I remember that it was scary how “they” would think they finally destroyed him, and he would get up and keep going. Once he was a melted puddle of metal, and you thought he was finally vanquished — and then — he re-formed and kept moving forward. Well…I once wrote in my Bible years ago — “we need to have ‘Terminator Faith’ — the kind that just gets up and keeps going no matter what Satan lobs at us in this life.” The Apostle Paul was that way — getting beaten didn’t stop him — shipwrecked? no, not stopping — imprisoned? can’t get out? then using that time to write letters to the churches which make up so much of our New Testament and have reached millions with the gospel message and encouragement to keep on keeping on for the Lord!! And then…stoned and left for dead?!! What did Paul do? Got up…and continued on. Proverbs 24:16  “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again…”
When I googled “Bible verses about being unstoppable”, I found your page. I read it all and it was a blessing. Just letting you know that I’m a Christian sister, and I had that instant love and bond for you, my sister in the royal family of the King of Kings.

    1. Wow Mary Anne, thank you SO MUCH for your comment! The LOVE the idea of “Terminator Faith”, and you are so right that the Apostle Paul operated in that same way! (If God is for us, who can be against us?!) Thank you for your words of encouragement. I am glad you found my blog, and may the Lord continue to strengthen and equip you and your family to share this unstoppable faith we have with the world around us! Blessings, Christin
