Today we’re talking about Day Three of the Praying with Victory Bible study, and we’re talking about the belt of truth. That is what we’re focusing on and studying for the 1st week of the study.
The Daily Declaration says this: The Holy Spirit will guide me into all truth.
This is found in John 16:13.
We know that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life–that we talked about last time, and the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth.
We also know that we have to abide by the truth of God’s Word, because the lies of the enemy are everywhere. They’re in our minds, in the culture, and we can think lies all on our own, due to our sinful nature.
One of the activities or exercises in the Praying with Victory Bible Study for Week One Day 3 is to write down some of the lies that you might be believing about yourself, about God and about others.
Lies about Ourselves
I’ve done this activity many times, and I always write something different, and I just want to be honest and share with you some of the lies that I had been believing. And these are things that I know are not true. But isn’t it so interesting that we can know the truth, but those lies still somehow squeeze in or sneak in?
And so what I wrote down was, sometimes I have, I believe, a lie about myself that I’m not good enough.
I don’t know if you’ve ever felt that way, or if you’ve ever thought that lie, or have been told that, or have had experiences where you felt like you weren’t good enough. Whether that was on your job, as a wife, as a mom, or just in any situation. Sometimes we all have those moments where we just don’t feel good enough. We don’t feel like we measure up.
So I wrote that down as one of my lies.
Lies about God
Have you ever gone through a situation in life where you were really believing for something, trusting God for something to happen in your life–and it didn’t happen? (At least not when you expected it to come?)
I’m sure we’ve all experienced that before. When those experiences happen, do we sometimes doubt God’s goodness? Or do we sometimes think that God does not care or is not good?
In the Bible study pages I wrote down that sometimes I might believe this lie subconsciously. Have you ever been there? We might not even say it out loud, but sometimes we might just, in our difficulties and in our moments of discouragement feel like God doesn’t care.
But we know that that is NOT true. But we have to sometimes be honest with ourselves, and that’s the purpose of this Bible study. It is to help us to reflect and write down some of the areas where we sometimes are believing a lie, and we have to call it out.
We have to expose the darkness of the lie and shine Christ’s glorious light of truth.
Lies about Others
Then there’s the section in this week’s Bible study that talks about lies we might be believing about others.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like I have to please others or be perfect in order to be accepted. Have you ever felt that way? Maybe you had a negative experience in school growing up, or maybe there was a negative experience that took place in your life where you felt you had to be perfect in order to be accepted or loved by others.
Whatever your own personal lies might be, feel free to write down on the Bible study page.
Even if you don’t have the Praying with Victory Bible Study, you can always pull out a sheet of paper and write down what are some of the lies you might be believing about yourself. As yourself, What are some of the lies I’m believing about God that I know are not true?
After we’ve identified what the lies are, and called them out, we need to go to God’s Word for the Truth.
If I’m believing a lie that says that I’m not good enough, I have to go to Scriptures that say:
I am a child of God.
I am adopted as a daughter of God.
I am a masterpiece.
And because of this truth, I am enough.
I am good enough because God is MORE than enough.
Because God is good, His goodness dwells within me.
When we think about the fruit of the Spirit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control–we know there is goodness within us, and we don’t have to walk around feeling like we aren’t good enough.
These are some of the truths from Scripture that in the Bible study you can write down.
In Praying with Victory there is a Scripture reading plan at the end of Week One that has other Scriptures with powerful Scriptures to remind you of God’s truth.
The Truth About God
God is Spirit, and it says that His worshipers worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
God’s Spirit connects to our spirit. We have the Holy Spirit within us, He guides us into all truth.
God is light. He is a righteous judge. God is love. He loves us, and he cares about us.
When we’re having a bad day, or when we’re getting discouraged or believing lies that say that God doesn’t care, remember the truth.
He is there.
He is present.
He loves you.
This is a great exercise to write down the things that are true about who God is, so that we can remind ourselves and encourage our souls when we need to focus on the truth.
The Truth About Others
In the Bible study there are some Scriptures that you can look up about how we can love one another, and serve one another with humility.
We can love others and serve them with humility and with gratitude. We don’t have to worry about what they’re thinking of us, because we’re on a mission to serve God. When we’re serving the Lord, we can serve others in honor of Him.
When we serve others, we are loving God.
That’s why, no matter what responses we might get from other people, we don’t have to find our identity and what people think of us. The truth is, people are going to reject us. Sometimes people are going to speak poorly of us.
Sometimes the people in our lives mean well and have good intentions, but those intentions may sometimes feel hurtful towards us. There’s going to be those moments, but we don’t have to define who we are in the eyes of others.
The Truth About Ourselves
We find our identity in God in the Lord. Because of that, we can serve others freely. We can love others, even if they choose to not love us back.
Our only objective is serving the Lord, and we can serve Him freely and and serve others with that same freedom.
Because we know who we are and because we know who God is and because God loves us, that’s all that matters.
Other people’s thoughts and opinions of us do not determine our self-worth.
These are some of the reflections and insights that I had in this Bible Study Day Three!
When a lie pops into our minds, we can choose to demolish any stronghold and any opposing thought that goes against the knowledge of God 2 Corinthians 10:5.
That’s why, knowing the truth is so important–not to just know the truth in our minds, but to apply it in our lives and our hearts.
Let’s pray!
Dear Lord, we thank you so much for your truth that sets us free.
We ask that as we go through difficult times in our lives. May we remember that your divine grace and guidance gives us assurance and protection. Give us strength to confront any challenges that we may face, and may you instill within us sound wisdom to make decisions based on your truth!
May we lean on your Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path.
Lord, as the storms of life rage, I pray for your peace that transcends all understanding. May we remain unshaken. May we stand firm in the faith, trusting that you are working all things out for our good. Replace our fears and doubts with the comforting presence in the power of your word.
As we continue to go through our day, and as we experience difficult times, help us to remember that as the deer pants for water, may our soul long for you. May you richly satisfy our thirst, fill the emptiness within our souls, and provide for all of our needs according to your riches in glory.
We pray for all of these things in Jesus. Name.
Amen.
Thank you so much for joining me for today’s podcast episode! I look forward to seeing you next time have a great day.
