There are times in our lives when we just need a change–a total breakthrough. Have you ever hit a wall in a situation you were going through and thought, “Lord, this has to change!” Change is possible when we surrender our situations to Christ and strategically pray the Word of God.

So What does the Bible Say about Praying for Breakthrough?
Before we can effectively pray for a breakthrough, we first have to understand that prayer is powerful. Knowing and understanding the power of prayer is the catalyst that will bring about significant changes in our lives when we trust God and follow His Word. So what does the Bible say about the power of prayer?
Prayer is Effective and Powerful
James 5:16 says,
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Prayer is so powerful that it can move mountains and send down fire from heaven (Mark 11:23, 1 Kings 18:36-39). Never underestimate the power of prayer!
We have the amazing and awesome privilege of talking to the God of the entire universe. When we pray according to the will of God, He hears us. Amazing things can happen when we pray.

Prayer Changes Situations
Prayer is so powerful that it changes situations, people, and circumstances. Think of the story of Esther. She was in a desperate situation. Lives were at stake.
She decided to rally her maidservants around her and fast and pray for God to make a change in the nation of Israel. At that point, Haman was trying to destroy the nation of Israel. But Esther decided to wait on the Lord and pray (Esther 4:16).
That’s when things started to change. Instead of experiencing massive death and destruction, the nation of Israel continued to thrive–and their enemies were destroyed instead (Esther 8:1,11)!
That is the power of prayer. So when you look at your current situation, enter into the throne of grace and keep praying.
Prayer Changes Us
Prayer not only changes situations, but it changes us. Oftentimes we want God to change our situations immediately– and that might not always happen. We must trust God’s sovereign plan, purpose, and timing. What we can change immediately is our attitudes and ways of thinking about our situations.
How to Pray for a Breakthrough in your Life
The definition of a breakthrough is a sudden, dramatic, and important discovery or development. (source) It is also defined as an act or instance of moving through or beyond an obstacle. (source)
When we decide that we are “sick and tired of being sick and tired”–that is when the power of God can radically change our minds and hearts to bring a powerful breakthrough.Â
Pray for a Breakthrough in your Mind
Romans 12:2 says that we are transformed and changed by the renewing of our minds. When we use the word of God to change our minds, He will transform how we think. When we change how we think, we can eventually change the way we view our current situations.
Pray for the power of God to change your heart and mind through His Word! If we are thinking negatively about ourselves, our situations or the people around us, we need the power of God to transform our minds through His word.
Pray for a Breakthrough in the Direction of your Life
After you have done a bit of self-reflection and prayer for God to change your heart and mind, ask God to take you to the next level in your spiritual journey. Ask Him to give you direction and guidance in your life. Pray for God to give you wisdom and discernment in your everyday life.
Praying for these things can bring about a radical change in the direction of your life, so that you continue to go on the path that God has set out for you.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
