As I sat down with author, speaker, and creative coach Sarah Geringer for the latest episode of the Praying with Victory podcast, I knew we were in for a rich and meaningful conversation.
What I didn’t anticipate was just how deeply her words would stir something within my own heart—a reminder of the simple, sacred power of God’s Word and the life-changing conversations we can have with Him through prayer.
Sarah shared her story with such honesty and grace, tracing the roots of her faith all the way back to her great-grandparents and a childhood spent in the comforting arms of church and school.
Growing up in a small town in Missouri, Sarah’s life was not without challenges—especially coming from a dysfunctional home. Yet even then, God was planting seeds through the community of faith and the examples of those who came before her.
From a young age, Sarah was drawn to both art and writing. Over time, God wove these passions together into a calling that would blossom into a vibrant ministry. Through books, blogs, coaching, and podcasting, Sarah has become a beacon of encouragement for countless Christian creatives—and it all starts with the Word.
One of the most powerful parts of our conversation centered around the habit that transformed her life: daily Bible reading and prayer. Sarah recalled the moment in 2003 when she realized she had never read the Bible from cover to cover.
That conviction led her to purchase a One-Year Bible, a format that divided Scripture into daily readings from the Old and New Testaments, Psalms, and Proverbs. Each day, one verse was highlighted as a “focus verse,” and Sarah began to meditate and pray through these verses.
That simple act—aligning her prayer life with Scripture—became the catalyst for transformation.
“The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.”
—Psalm 119:130 (NIV)
As she reflected on those years of prayer and Scripture meditation, Sarah described how she began to clearly hear the voice of the Lord. In one powerful story, she shared how God impressed upon her heart a convicting truth—not in response to her specific prayer request, but in response to a deeper need in her soul. It reminded me of how often God knows exactly what we need before we even ask.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
—John 10:27 (NIV)
Sarah’s journey is a beautiful reminder that the more we anchor ourselves in God’s Word, the more we will recognize His voice. When Scripture saturates our hearts, it reshapes the way we pray—not just as a list of requests, but as a continual, life-giving conversation with our Father.
What also stood out to me was Sarah’s commitment to both in-person and online ministry. She shared how she believes the Apostle Paul would be using every platform possible today to spread the gospel. That’s a challenge and encouragement to all of us: to be faithful with the tools we’ve been given, whether they be words, art, social media, or simply time.
As Sarah continues to support and equip other Christian creatives, her life reflects a truth we all need to remember: our prayers, our words, and our gifts matter—especially when they’re rooted in God’s truth.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
—Romans 12:2 (NKJV)
A Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of Your Word, which lights our path and speaks truth into every corner of our lives. Thank You for faithful servants like Sarah, who remind us of the beauty of abiding in You through Scripture and prayer. Lord, help us to carve out space in our busy lives to listen—to truly listen—to Your voice.
May we seek You daily, meditate on Your promises, and allow Your Word to shape our thoughts, our prayers, and our purpose. Transform us, Lord, from the inside out. Let our lives be living testimonies of Your grace, mercy, and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
