From Postpartum to Purpose: Hearing God’s Voice in Every Season

There are moments in life when everything we thought we knew—about ourselves, our calling, even our connection with God—feels like it’s slipping away.

In this week’s episode of the Praying with Victory podcast, I had the honor of speaking with Neeka Cummings, a gifted coach, consultant, and woman of deep faith, whose story is a powerful reminder that even in our most hidden, hurting seasons, God is present and speaking.

Neeka shared candidly about her journey through postpartum depression—a time that not only challenged her identity as a new mother but left her feeling disconnected from her purpose and her voice.

A woman who had always worked, always poured into others, suddenly found herself in unfamiliar territory: home, isolated, and wrestling with a deep internal fog.

But it was in that very place, where her heart cried out for the presence of God, that He met her in the most unexpected way. She didn’t seek to revive her coaching career; she simply sought the Lord.

And in response, God began sending people to her—women who needed the exact wisdom, insight, and spiritual encouragement Neeka had been anointed to give. She coached them through writing books, starting businesses, and stepping into their own callings—all from her home, with the Holy Spirit as her guide.

What moved me most in our conversation was Neeka’s honesty about learning to hear God again. She wasn’t always confident that she could. She didn’t feel “qualified” anymore. But as she leaned in, asked the Lord to guide her, and chose to trust His whispers, He restored her voice, her confidence, and her joy.

She shared how she teaches her young son to recognize when God is speaking, by paying attention to those gentle thoughts that bring peace—the kind of thoughts that we know are too wise, too timely, and too full of love to be our own. That, she says, is the Holy Spirit. And it’s available to all of us.

Neeka’s testimony is a reminder that God never wastes our pain. Every season, even the ones filled with confusion, can become sacred ground if we’re willing to invite Him into it. Her story encourages us to see obstacles not as the end, but as the beginning of something new—an invitation to deeper relationship with the Lord and renewed purpose through Him.

As we look toward the Praying with Victory Summit, my prayer is that each of us walks away with a deeper reverence for the voice of God. That we learn to still our hearts, to lean in with expectancy, and to believe that He is always speaking, always present, and always faithful—even when the path looks nothing like we imagined.

“The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.”
—Isaiah 58:11 (NLT)

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being near to us in every season—the joyful ones and the ones filled with questions. Thank You for Neeka’s testimony, a living example of how You redeem pain and restore purpose.

For every woman reading this who feels lost, unseen, or uncertain, I ask that You meet her right where she is. Whisper truth to her heart. Stir her spirit with the reminder that she is not forgotten.

Lord, help us to get quiet enough to hear You. Teach us how to recognize Your voice and trust Your leading. Strengthen us in our weaknesses, fill us with fresh hope, and surround us with Your peace. May we walk in victory—not because of what we see, but because of who You are. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
