There are so many ways you can make your own prayer journal templates. In my other post on making a prayer journal, I discuss ways you can create a simple prayer journal by purchasing an inexpensive notebook and decorating it with beautiful stickers and washi tape.
If you are looking for other creative ways to make prayer journal inserts or templates, you can easily make your own customized prayer journal in a free design program called Canva.
I like using Canva to make my prayer journal templates because I can easily create prayer pages that are customized to my personal prayer needs (and it is a lot of fun to make them!)
I also like using Canva because they have a free version of their design program, which still gives you so many options to choose from. You can get really creative and use many of their elements and editing features for free.
They do have a paid version, but it is not necessary to get the paid version in order to make your own prayer journal.
Canva is a great option because you don’t have to buy expensive editing software like Photoshop to create a beautiful prayer journal!
Let me show you one of the latest prayer journal pages I made in Canva recently.
How to Make Prayer Journal Templates in Canva
1. Sign up for Canva
First, you need to sign up for a free account with Canva by going to canva.com. This is super easy–all you need to do is sign up with your name, email address, and create a password for yourself.
You can even sign up with Google or Facebook.
Remember, you don’t need the paid version–the free version works just fine!
2. Choose your Design Template
When you sign up, you will be taken to the design gallery where you can pick what you would like to design. There are so many design template options!
The nice thing about Canva is that they have pre-made templates that you can use to get you started if you don’t want to create a design from scratch.
You could choose templates for greeting cards, postcards, planners, letterhead, social media templates, and so much more.Â
I make a lot of my designs using letterhead, which is 8.5”x11”, but you can add your own custom dimensions to make a prayer journal that is a perfect fit for you.
I like to use custom dimensions when making prayer journal pages that fit in my classic Happy Planner, which is 7”x9.25”.
Adjust the dimensions as you need to!
3. Choose your Design Elements
This part is so much fun!! I love choosing digital scrapbooking elements when I create my prayer pages.
Digital elements are individual png files that have transparent backgrounds, you can upload your elements and add them to your prayer journal pages.
For the prayer journal I made for this post, I downloaded these super cute and fun scrapbooking elements for free from Sweet Shoppe Designs, and the shoppe owner is Traci Reed.
This digital scrapbooking kit is absolutely FREE, and you get so many elements, I only used a handful of the elements in this kit. Her work is stunning! Check out this amazing free kit here!
4. Get Creative!
Once you have downloaded the elements, you can upload them to Canva. Now you can have fun playing with the elements and add them to your design Canvas. I created a Bible journaling page on Psalm 1.
I copied and pasted Psalm 1 from biblegateway.com and added the passage to my journal page.
When I print out my Bible journaling passage, I like to use colored pencils and markers to highlight different portions of that passage that stick out to me.
Then I made a “notes” page where I could write my reflections on the verses from Psalm 1.
I also made a “Prayers” section where I can write out my prayers and reflections from Psalm 1, or from any thoughts and prayers I have on my heart.
Then I made a “Praying for” section where I can write down specific friends and family members I am praying for.
The sky’s the limit when you are creating your own prayer pages! Designing prayer pages is so much fun, and really inspires me to pray with power and divine creativity!
Take a look at this video to see how I created these beautiful prayer pages in Canva!
5. Download your Prayer Journal Templates
When you are happy with your designs, you can choose to share your design on social media or download your pages. I usually download my designs as a PDF and then you can print them from there.
Click the drop down menu in the right hand corner of your screen and select “download”.
And that’s it! You can add your prayer pages to a binder, or punch them with a Happy Planner punch and put them in a Happy Planner or any other type of disc binder.
In Conclusion
Making your own prayer journal pages is a lot of fun–there are so many ways you can do this! You can make a prayer journal using physical paper, stickers, and glue, and you can try creating prayer journal pages in Canva.
I like making prayer journals both ways, and I love how easy it is to make your own personal prayer pages in Canva. You can print your designs over and over again, and draw closer to God through prayer! Update: Canva now has an amazing feature where you can design stickers and have them printed and delivered to your doorstep! Learn more about designing stickers in Canva here.
Free Prayer Journal
Due to the terms of use of the Sweet Shoppe Designs, I am not able to give the prayer journals that I made away (they are for personal use only), but I created another simple prayer journal that you can download using free digital paper from Free Pretty Things for You.
