This morning I have been praying Ephesians 4:22-24,
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Before we were in Christ, we were corrupted by our own deceitful desires. We believed lies and allowed our own toxic thoughts to control our lives.
But now that we are in Christ, we are made new. Our old way of thinking and living are renewed–and it starts in the mind.
As we put on our new selves, filled with true righteousness and holiness, may we praise our great God that we can be transformed in the attitude of our minds. The Greek word “made new”, (or some translations say “renewed”) means to renovate.
A few summers ago my husband renovated a property that was in pretty bad shape. A lot of the old, decrepit and worn things in the kitchen had to be removed and replaced with brand new countertops and appliances. By the end of the project, the place was renewed–it didn’t even look like the same place!
In order for our minds to be renewed and renovated according to God’s Word, we need to allow the Lord to give us an “extreme mind makeover”. We need to take out the old, harmful lies and toxic thoughts that we allow to dwell in our minds way too long–and then replace those thoughts with pure, good, truth-filled, life-giving thoughts and attitudes of Christ that align with God’s will for our lives.
