Are you looking for ways to encourage and pray for your son? In this day and age we live in, it is essential that we pray for our sons with power and effectiveness. Use the following Scriptures as a guide to pray for the most important areas in your son’s life.
Praying for our sons daily is one of the most important ways we can communicate our love to our sons, and they will be encouraged to know that we daily take them to the throne of God’s grace in prayer!
Nine Scriptures to Pray for your Son
There are so many Scriptures in God’s Word that we can use to pray for our sons. You can even download a free prayer calendar in this post with over 30 Scriptures you can use to pray for your children.
As we specifically pray for our sons, we can hone our prayers a bit more and use the following Scriptures to pray for our sons strategically.
Whether your son is a busy toddler, a preteen or an adult, here are nine Scriptures that you can use to pray for your son TODAY.
1. Pray for your son to love God
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Deuteronomy 6:5
One of the first areas that we can pray for our sons is for them to love God with all their hearts. If our sons cultivate a genuine and authentic love for God, all the other things in their lives will fall into place.
Just as it says in Matthew 6:33, when our sons seek God and his kingdom first, all the other things that they need will be provided for them.
Pray for your son to have a dynamic love for God’s Word. If your son is still in your home this can be cultivated by attending church services, Bible studies, and youth groups.
Surround your son with books that are God-honoring and devotionals that pique their interest. These things, working with the power of the Holy Spirit, can help our sons cultivate a strong relationship with God.
Prayer: Lord, I lift up my son to you right now. Help him to love you with all of his heart, soul, mind, and strength. Help him to know that you are always with him and can help him through anything. Amen.
2. Pray for your son to be a strong and courageous leader
So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him.
Numbers 27:18
Our world is in great need of strong, godly leaders. Joshua was ready to succeed Moses as the leader of the Israelites because he feared and honored God. Pray for your son to establish dynamic leadership skills that will be a blessing to others around him.
Prayer: Lord I pray for my son, that you will strengthen him and equip him with leadership skills that will make a difference in this world. Our world is in great need of strong, godly leaders who will stand up for what is right.
Help my son to demonstrate leadership qualities in his life that will benefit and bless those around him. Amen.
3. Pray for your son to have a heart of compassion
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.
Proverbs 31:8
Godly leaders also have hearts of compassion. Leaders do not only lead with courage and confidence, but with grace and humility. Pray for your son to demonstrate a heart of compassion for those around him, and for those who are in need.
Prayer: Lord I pray that my son will have a heart of compassion and mercy towards others around him. Help him to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, and may He powerfully defend the rights of the poor and marginalized. Amen.
4. Pray for your son to be protected against sexual temptation
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
Satan strongly attacks men in the area of sexual temptation. Many of the Old Testament leaders stumbled in this area. David was a man after God’s own heart, but he also fell deeply into adulterous sin with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11).
King Solomon was the wisest king who ever lived, yet he still allowed his many wives to lead him astray from God’s law (1 Kings 11:3-4).
In the over-sexualized culture we live in, we must diligently pray for our sons in this area. Satan lurks in this world seeking to devour our sons. He is crafty and cunning, and his only agenda is to steal, kill, and destroy.
Thankfully, we have the power of God’s Word and the power of prayer, and we can continually go to God’s throne of grace and intercede for our sons.
Prayer: Lord, I lift up my son to you in the area of sexual temptation. Your Word says that no temptation has overtaken us except what is common to all people. You are a faithful God, and you will not allow my son to be tempted sexually beyond what he can bear.
Thank you for providing a way out so that he can stand against sexual temptation. Protect him in this area, and may he daily seek your face for hope and strength. Amen.
5. Pray for your son to be a godly husband
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
Ephesians 5:25
Whether your son is a young child or an adult, we can pray that they become the husbands God created them to be. Pray for your husband to have strong examples of what a godly husband looks like in his family and church community.
Prayer: Lord, I pray that my son will grow to be a loving and godly husband. Help him to sacrifice his life for his wife and children, just as Jesus sacrificed his life for the church. Help him to look to the godly examples of those around him, and teach him what it means to be a godly husband. Amen.
6. Pray for your Son to be a loving father
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4
Even if your son is not a father yet or is still at home under your care, it is never too soon to pray for our sons to grow to be the amazing fathers God may call them to be someday. If your son is a father, pray that he will be a strong example of a godly father to his children.
Prayer: Lord, I pray for my son. Thank you that you are the greatest example of a loving Father. Help him to grow to be a wonderful father who teaches his children to honor and follow you. Amen.
7. Pray for your son to be a diligent worker
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:17
Our sons will spend a large portion of their time working to provide for their families. As soon as God created Adam in the garden, God gave him the responsibility of caring for it.
The work our sons will do on their jobs is an important part of their lives, and something they can do with excellence and diligence.
We can pray that our sons will have the opportunity to use the skills and abilities God gave them for his glory in their work and in their careers.
Prayer: Lord, I pray that my son will do everything in your name with a heart of gratitude and thanksgiving. Whatever he does, in word or deed, may he do it with excellence and purpose, that you may receive the glory and honor in his life. Amen.
8. Pray for your son to have godly friendships
Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.
Proverbs 13:20
Lord, I pray that you will guide my son into Godly relationships that honor and glorify you. Surround him with friends who desire to serve you with their lives, and may they walk in the wisdom of your word, and not in folly. Amen.
9. Pray for your son to be a man of integrity
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.
Proverbs 10:9
As we pray for our sons to love God, to demonstrate good leadership, and a heart of compassion, we can also pray that they become godly men of integrity.
Men who have godly integrity will not be swayed by the pressures of this world to operate in ways that are dishonest. Pray for your son to be a man of integrity who fears the Lord all the days of his life.
Prayer; Lord, please help my son to grow to be a man of integrity and honor. Teach him the value of honesty and keeping his word, and may he glorify you and walk securely as a man of integrity. Amen.
In Conclusion
I hope that you have found these Scriptures encouraging as we seek to use God’s Word to pray powerfully and effectively for our sons! In the midst of the difficulties and trials our sons may go through, we as mothers can always pray for our sons.
Never give up, and continue to pray for your son to be all of who God created him to be!
