From Brokenness to Bold Faith: A Heart-to-Heart with Sarah Ann Goode

There are moments in life when we feel the weight of the world pressing down—when hardship, grief, and confusion settle into our hearts like unwelcome guests. But in these valleys, God often writes the most beautiful stories of faith. That truth came to life so powerfully in my recent conversation with Sarah Ann Goode on the Praying with Victory podcast.

Sarah Ann, founder of Proverbs31Mentor.com, shared her remarkable journey of pain, surrender, and purpose. From walking through her husband’s cancer diagnosis early in their marriage, to enduring the heartache of infertility, to navigating two messy adoptions of children with special needs—Sarah Ann has known suffering intimately. And yet, through it all, she has clung to Jesus.

What stood out to me most was her unwavering belief in the goodness of God, even when life didn’t make sense. Sarah Ann described how God didn’t give her the full picture from the start—but instead unveiled His plan moment by moment, drawing her closer to Him in every step. Her mission is now to help other women know and live God’s Word, especially in their hardest moments.

We talked about the power of prayer in the midst of pain—how it isn’t about perfect words or polished faith, but about bringing our messy, broken hearts to the Lord, again and again. Sarah Ann reminded us that prayer isn’t a one-time transaction; it’s a continual surrender. It’s the daily laying down of burdens before a God who sees, who hears, and who loves deeply.

She encouraged us to remember God’s faithfulness by building “stones of remembrance,” just like the Israelites did. When we recall how God has moved before, our faith is strengthened to trust Him now. Even in suffering, we can lift up praise, declaring His goodness and letting our focus shift from our problems to His power.

One of the most powerful things Sarah Ann said was this: “We don’t have to stay stuck in small, defeated prayers. We serve a big God, and we are invited to do battle on our knees.” That struck me deeply. So many of us live like we’re defeated when victory has already been won through Jesus.

I walked away from this conversation reminded that revival begins in the secret place. In the quiet moments of prayer. In the tears. In the worship. In the remembering. When we dare to believe again, trust again, and pray again—we are stepping into the victory that Jesus secured for us.

If you’re feeling weary today—if the struggle feels unending—let Sarah Ann’s story encourage you. God sees you. He’s with you. And He is writing a beautiful story, even through the ashes.

A Closing Prayer of Victory

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being near to the brokenhearted and for turning ashes into beauty. In every trial and tear, You have never left our side. Teach us to pray with boldness, to come to You daily with open hands and surrendered hearts. Help us to remember Your faithfulness and to fix our eyes on who You are—faithful, good, merciful, and mighty. Stir a revival in our hearts, Lord, and remind us that the victory is already ours through Jesus Christ. May we rise each day ready to do battle on our knees.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
