The mind is the secret passageway to the soul. The thoughts we think reveal the depths of what lies within our hearts. Since we are born into sin, God’s word reveals that the human minds are sinful apart from Him.
Listen to the words of Jesus in Mark 7:21-23:
For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean’.
Often the negative, sinful thoughts we entertain in our minds have the dangerous potential to give birth to sinful behaviors.
The book of James goes on to say that once the evil desires of our hearts have been conceived, it gives birth to sin, and ultimately, death (James 1:15).
But praise God that Jesus took our sinful thoughts and covered them with the blood of His precious sacrifice!
Now our minds can be renewed through Christ.
Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on that the spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace…
Romans 8:5-6
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Romans 12:2a
Those of us who are in Christ don’t have to remain prisoners of our sinful minds.
Paul explains to the Corinthian church that the Holy Spirit teaches us spiritual wisdom, expressing to us spiritual truths and understanding.
We, through the Holy Spirit, now have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:14-16).
Through Christ, we can now take captive every thought that does not line up with the truth of God’s Word and make it obedient to Christ. Praise the Lord!

How Do We Take Every Thought Captive?
We can take every thought captive by replacing each negative and sinful though with the TRUTH of God’s Word.
Instead of thinking, “I can’t do anything right…“
replace that thought with, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
Instead of thinking, “I’m a failure…”
replace that thought with, “I am more than a conqueror through Christ!” (Romans 8:37)
Instead of thinking, “God could never love me…”
replace that thought with “I am loved and cherished by God.” (Zephaniah 3:17)
The best way to take every negative thought captive is to replace those soul-crushing lies with the truth, strength and power of God’s Word!
May the Lord give you His peace, hope and joy as you renew your mind with His Word each day!
