Prayers for Graduates-Praying for God’s Plan for their Life

Whether the graduates you know are completing middle school, high school, college or a graduate program, God has an amazing and wonderful plan for their lives. They might not always know what that plan is right away, but through the Holy Spirit’s prompting, God can lead and guide us on the path and direction he has for them. Let’s use the following Scriptures to pray and intercede for the graduates in your life.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the plans that you have for the lives of the graduates of this year. You have plans to prosper them and not to harm them. You have a bright future for each of their lives. May you make known to them the great plans you have for their lives. Help them to seek your face and gain wisdom and understanding for the direction they should take in their lives. Amen.

May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. Psalm 20:4

But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Psalm 33:11

Prayer: Lord, thank you that your plans stand firm forever. Reveal to our graduates today what plans you have for their lives. Help them to use their gifts for your honor and glory. May the plans and purposes that you have for their lives bless those around them, and benefit those in the next generation. Amen.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3

Prayer: Dear Lord, help the graduates of this year to commit to you whatever they do. May you establish their plans and show them how they can serve others and advance your Kingdom. Amen.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21

Prayers for Graduates- Praying for Guidance

One of my favorite psalms to pray is Psalm 23. No matter what stage of life we are in, we can always seek the Lord for his guidance and direction in our lives. Graduation is a fun time of celebration for the accomplishments of family members, and it can also be daunting for graduates to figure out what next steps to take on their journey.

May these Scriptures and prayers give the graduates in your life comfort and strength as they trust in the Lord.

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Psalm 23:2-3

Prayer: Lord, lead and guide our graduates today for your name’s sake. May they pursue your Word and find comfort and strength in your promises. You are their Shepherd, and may they follow you wholeheartedly. Guide them into all truth, and lead them on the straight and narrow path. Amen.

Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Psalm 25:5

Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. Psalm 31:3

May you be a firm rock for them to stand on as they face each day with courage and Grace. Amen.

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Isaiah 58:11

Prayer: Lord, may you guide our graduates always. May you satisfy their needs in a sun-scorched land. Strengthen their minds, their bodies and their souls. May you pour your spirit into them and make them flourish like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters will never fail. May they prosper and thrive like a tree planted by streams of Living Water. Amen.

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 16:13

Prayer: Lord, thank you that we can seek direction and guidance from you. Holy Spirit, guide our graduates today. Infuse them with your peace, love, and joy. Reveal to them what is true, and may they wholeheartedly seek after you. Amen.

Prayers for Graduates- Praying for Wisdom

I love the story of King Solomon when he first became king in 1 Kings chapter 3. God told Solomon that he could ask for anything he desired.

At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

1 Kings 3:5

Instead of asking for wealth or riches, Solomon asked for wisdom and a discerning heart to rule and govern the people of Israel (1 Kings 3:9). Not only did God grant Solomon his request, but he gave him what he did not ask for–wealth and honor (1 Kings 3:13).

This story has a great lesson for us to remember. Whether we are graduates embarking on a new educational journey, or seeking to serve God in our careers or families, we all need God’s wisdom and discernment. May these prayers for wisdom encourage your graduates to seek the Lord’s will in their lives just like King Solomon did.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. Psalm 111:10

Prayer: Lord, teach us to pursue your wisdom. Help our graduates to know that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom. Grant them your knowledge and understanding as they discover the plans you have for them. Amen.

For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6

Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. Proverbs 3:13-14
