Dismantling the “Diva” Complex (to Find your True Royalty in Christ)

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

Have you ever watched TLC’s reality show Toddlers and Tiaras? Perhaps you have flipped through the channels and stumbled upon a group of highly overworked, cranky young girls (some as young as age five!) dolled up in fancy do’s and makeup, paraded on stage with frilly dresses in vicious competition to be crowned winner of the latest pageant.

Four Ways to bring Revival to your Soul

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. Jeremiah 31:25

One summer in high school I went on a missions trip with a group of other students to the western part of Mexico. It was an incredible experience that completely broadened my horizons and gave me a love for serving others. One aspect of the trip that was fun and memorable was the journey itself. Our group took two 15-passenger vans and drove from West Michigan to Ensenada, Mexico–nearly a 40 hour drive!

Three Words that Bring True Healing

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me and I will be whiter than snow.
Psalm 51:7

Imagine living in total isolation from your family and friends. Over time, your once smooth, clear skin slowly becomes covered in pale blotches. Sores begin to infect your body, and pretty soon, your face becomes unrecognizable. You feel alone. Ostracized. Completely unwanted and unloved. Millions of people in the world experience these feelings everyday–and suffer with the debilitating disease of leprosy.

How to Claim your Year of Freedom

Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17

Several years back a group of teachers at the school I worked at traveled to New York City for professional development. We visited several Christian schools, sat in on classes, spoke with teachers and staff to gain fresh ideas and teaching methods we could implement in our school back in Michigan.

Three Steps to an Abundant L.I.F.E (with free printable planner!)

…I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10

Over the years I have learned several life lessons from the children’s books I read to my kids. One lesson comes from one of the delightful adventures of the famous Frog and Toad series. My absolute favorite story is called A List.

Ten Hidden Treasures of the Heart

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
Proverbs 24:3-4

When you looked into the mirror this morning, what did you see? A plain face? A few wrinkles? Blotches and blemishes? So much more lies behind your smile. You are a holy house; a sanctuary.

What do you Crave?

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 1 Peter 2:2-3

This post is part of my friend Kate’s Five Minute Friday link up, where a weekly prompt is given and we write together about the same word for five minutes. This week’s prompt is crave.

Five Christmas Songs that Uplift the Soul

Every year my amazing sister buys tickets for me and my husband to the Christmas symphony in our city for my birthday. Hearing my favorite melodies of the holiday season has a magical effect on my heart. The Christmas lights, stunning scenery, and the beautiful music is a wonderful experience to enjoy. Hearing familiar tunes like Sleigh Ride, and Silver Bells are nice, but the carols that powerfully echo the truth of my Savior are the songs that stir my soul with joy, passion and praise.

How to Wear Clothing of Compassion

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!
Isaiah 30:18

Last summer I remember checking on my sleeping 20 month old at around 12:30am (yes, I was still up!) The temperature in the room drastically dropped, and I discovered that my daughter had curled herself into a tiny ball, trying to keep herself warm with only a thin onesie on and her favorite blanket tightly tucked under her chest like a plush teddy bear.
